A fun and creative Thanksgiving appetizer, where Gouda, crackers, and meats are arranged to resemble a turkey using a pear as the body.
Ingredients
- 1 pear (for the turkey body)
- Roth Aged Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
- Roth Smoked Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
- Roth Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
- Assorted crackers
- Assorted cured meats (like salami, pepperoni, or prosciutto)
- Whole cloves (for the eyes)
- 1 small triangle of Gouda (for the beak)
- Pretzel sticks (for the legs)
Method
- Prepare the Pear: Place the pear upright on a serving platter, with the stem pointing up. This will serve as the turkey’s body.
- Add Eyes and Beak: Push two cloves into the pear to create the turkey’s eyes. Cut a small triangle from the Gouda wedge and insert it into the pear to form the beak.
- Create the Turkey’s Tail Feathers: Starting from the base of the pear, layer Gouda slices, crackers, and meats in alternating rows, fanning them out in a semi-circle around half of the pear to resemble the turkey’s feathers.
- Add the Legs: Break two pretzel sticks in half and insert them into the bottom of the pear to resemble the turkey’s legs.
