A fun and creative Thanksgiving appetizer, where Gouda, crackers, and meats are arranged to resemble a turkey using a pear as the body.

Ingredients

  • 1 pear (for the turkey body)
  • Roth Aged Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
  • Roth Smoked Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
  • Roth Gouda cheese, cut into wedges and then into thin slices
  • Assorted crackers
  • Assorted cured meats (like salami, pepperoni, or prosciutto)
  • Whole cloves (for the eyes)
  • 1 small triangle of Gouda (for the beak)
  • Pretzel sticks (for the legs)

Method

  1. Prepare the Pear: Place the pear upright on a serving platter, with the stem pointing up. This will serve as the turkey’s body.
  2. Add Eyes and Beak: Push two cloves into the pear to create the turkey’s eyes. Cut a small triangle from the Gouda wedge and insert it into the pear to form the beak.
  3. Create the Turkey’s Tail Feathers: Starting from the base of the pear, layer Gouda slices, crackers, and meats in alternating rows, fanning them out in a semi-circle around half of the pear to resemble the turkey’s feathers.
  4. Add the Legs: Break two pretzel sticks in half and insert them into the bottom of the pear to resemble the turkey’s legs.
