French Onion Havarti and Caramelized Onion Puffs

These savory puff pastries filled with caramelized onions and topped with Roth French Onion Havarti are a delightful appetizer or snack. The flaky puff pastry, sweet caramelized onions, and creamy, flavorful Havarti cheese create a mouthwatering combination. Garnished with fresh chives, these pastries are perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 oz Roth French Onion Havarti Cheese, sliced
  • Fresh chives, chopped, for garnish

Method

  1. In a large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions, sugar, and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 20-25 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown and caramelized. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 12 equal squares. Place the puff pastry squares on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Spoon a small amount of caramelized onions onto the center of each puff pastry square. Top each with a slice of Roth French Onion Havarti cheese.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from the oven and garnish with freshly chopped chives.
