French Onion Dip with French Onion Havarti

This rich and flavorful French Onion Dip, made with caramelized onions and French Onion Havarti, is a warm, cheesy dip perfect for parties or cozy evenings at home.

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
  • 6 ounces French Onion Havarti, shredded, divided
  • 2/3 cup sour cream
  • 3/4 cup half-and-half
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Method

  1. In a large non-stick pan, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring as needed. Add thyme, sugar, and half the salt.
  2. Stir to combine and cook until onions are soft and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  4. In a large bowl, stir together cream cheese, parmesan, ¾ of the Havarti, sour cream, half-and-half, garlic, black pepper, and remaining salt.
  5. Once onions have cooled slightly, stir them into the cheese mixture.
  6. Pour mixture into an 8×8 baking dish and top with the remaining Havarti.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly. Serve warm.
