This rich and flavorful French Onion Dip, made with caramelized onions and French Onion Havarti, is a warm, cheesy dip perfect for parties or cozy evenings at home.
Ingredients
- 2 large onions, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
- 4 ounces softened cream cheese
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese
- 6 ounces French Onion Havarti, shredded, divided
- 2/3 cup sour cream
- 3/4 cup half-and-half
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Method
- In a large non-stick pan, melt butter and olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 5 minutes, stirring as needed. Add thyme, sugar, and half the salt.
- Stir to combine and cook until onions are soft and golden brown, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- In a large bowl, stir together cream cheese, parmesan, ¾ of the Havarti, sour cream, half-and-half, garlic, black pepper, and remaining salt.
- Once onions have cooled slightly, stir them into the cheese mixture.
- Pour mixture into an 8×8 baking dish and top with the remaining Havarti.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden and bubbly. Serve warm.
